Train

As part of the Network, we are keen to provide locally based information days which parents and professionals can attend in order to keep up to date on issues relating to Down Syndrome. Certain strategies have been shown to be effective in developing the language skills of children with Down Syndrome. Our Friday group is based on these strategies and we are beginning to see the effect on the children involved.

Teaching children with Down Syndrome - A series of practical workshops for teachers and teaching assistants.

Educating children with Down Syndrome can present us with unfamiliar challenges. How exactly do we provide the right type of curriculum with appropriate levels of expectation? What does good practice look like? What are the keys to unlocking a child’s learning potential? Given the array of difficulties faced, successfully including such a child can seem like a complex task.

This course aims to simplify that task by providing a comprehensive, rolling programme of workshops covering either specific curriculum areas or wider inclusion issues. Both theory and practical ideas will be discussed alongside an opportunity to develop resources useful in our classrooms. Time will be incorporated for sharing ideas with other practitioners.

Most sessions will be delivered by our Specialist Teacher, whilst others will utilise the expertise of other agencies. Workshops will be one half day per half term.
